WhatsApp has been actively developing chat interoperability, and the feature seems to be nearing completion. The latest beta version of WhatsApp now includes an option for managing chats from third-party apps, as reported by WABetaInfo.
While the specifics of how this will enable cross-platform messaging and which apps will be compatible remain unclear, interacting with other chat apps is expected to become more streamlined soon.
This feature allows users to disable data sharing between third-party chat apps fully. This aligns with Article 7 of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), which prioritizes user control over data sharing and communication preferences. Users who are not interested in cross-platform messaging can now opt out completely.

Additionally, this feature gives users precise control over which third-party apps can interact with WhatsApp. This empowers users to customize their communication preferences, opting to integrate only with trusted messaging services and personalizing their level of connectivity.
However, disabling chat interoperability will render third-party chats as read-only. While users won’t be able to send new messages through third-party chats, they will still have access to them and can choose to delete these chats.
The third-party chat management feature is still under development, so it remains unclear when it will be released to the stable version of WhatsApp. However, given its availability in the beta version, it shouldn’t be long before it becomes widely accessible to all users.
