Punjab Students Given Old and Damaged Textbooks for New School Year

Punjab Government Fails to Provide New Textbooks to Students; Old Books Used Instead

As the new academic session commences, students across Punjab are left with old and damaged textbooks, as a private news channel reported.

Delays in printing new textbooks have led to students not receiving them on time, forcing them to use old books. With over 15 million children enrolled in Punjab schools, the demand for textbooks exceeds 50 million.

Sources suggest that new book printing might be completed during summer vacations. Teachers expressed concerns about students’ difficulties when studying from old, often torn books.

General Secretary Rana Liaqat Ali emphasizes the responsibility of the Programme Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU) to ensure basic facilities in schools, including the timely provision of textbooks. He notes that despite changes in government, the personnel within PMIU remain unchanged.
