The government plans to reduce pension payments and increase the retirement age from 60 to 62 for Islamabad police and other government workers.
As reported by a national daily, the Establishment Division has submitted the proposal for final approval to a higher authority. If approved, pensioners could face a 30 percent reduction in payouts, receiving a gross pension based on 70 percent of their pensionable salaries from the last thirty-six months of service.
Concerns have been raised about the harshness of the proposed penalty in the draft regarding early retirement, which is 3 percent per year. Some argue that this penalty is too severe, especially considering valid reasons for some employees seeking early retirement.
Additionally, the draft notification includes provisions for annual pay increments, a measure that some believe is out of place given the context of the proposal.
