The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has called for an investigation into the allegations, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has cast doubts on the mental state of the Rawalpindi commissioner.
Rana Sanaullah, a PML-N leader, speaking to Dunya News, suggested that the Rawalpindi commissioner appeared to be mentally unstable, implying that his claim of attempting suicide was dubious.
PTI spokespersons have demanded the resignations of CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja and Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa in light of the revelations made by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha.
PTI emphasized that Mr. Chattha’s admission supported their stance on electoral fraud, revealing the individuals behind the manipulation of the election results.
The party highlighted Mr. Chattha’s revelation that votes for independent candidates, leading by over 70,000 votes, were converted into defeats through the use of fake stamps.
PTI urged the electoral watchdog to promptly return the 86 seats allegedly stolen from them and called for the punishment of all those involved in electoral fraud according to the constitution and the law.
In a parliamentary committee meeting, PTI leaders discussed the situation and emphasized that despite facing obstacles such as being deprived of their electoral symbol and several leaders being imprisoned during elections, the public still voted overwhelmingly in their favor.
PPP’s secretary information, Faisal Karim Kundi, stressed the need for an inquiry to verify the authenticity of the allegations, citing the sensitivity of the current political situation.
PML-N’s secretary information, Marriyum Aurangzeb, called for a thorough investigation into all communication channels used by Mr. Chattha and requested that his name be placed on the exit control list (ECL).
Aurangzeb emphasized that the commissioner held no constitutional responsibility or authority in the electoral process and questioned his absence from election commission hearings where evidence of rigging was discussed.
