PPP Takes Lead with 11 Seats in Pakistan Senate Elections

Pakistan Peoples Party Secures Majority in Senate Elections with 19 Seats

Unofficial and unverified results indicate that the Pakistan Peoples Party has clinched most seats in the Tuesday Senate elections to fill 19 vacant positions.

Polling commenced at 8 am across the National Assembly, Sindh Assembly, and Punjab Assembly, concluding at 4 pm.

Results from Islamabad:

  • PML-N candidate Ishaq Dar secured the technocrat seat with 222 votes.
  • Ruling alliance-supported Rana Mehmooul Hassan claimed victory on the General seat.

Results from Sindh:

  • PPP emerged triumphant with 10 seats, including 5 General seats, 2 women seats, 2 technocrat seats, and 1 minority seat.
  • An independent candidate and MQP-P secured the remaining two seats.
  • Notable winners for PPP include Kazim Ali, Ashraf Jatao, Masroor Ahsan, Nadeem Bhutto, Rubina Saadat Qaimkhani, and Quratulain.

Results from Punjab:

  • Backed by the ruling alliance, Muhammad Aurangzeb clinched the technocrat seat, while PML-N’s Mussadik Malik also secured a technocrat seat.
  • Bushra Anjum Butt and Anusha Rehman emerged victorious in the women’s seats.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Scenario:

  • Uncertainty looms over voting in KP due to a standoff between the provincial government and the opposition concerning the oath-taking of elected lawmakers on reserved seats.
