PM Kakar Appoints Tariq Bugti as Next President of Hockey Federation

In a recent development, Brigadier (retired) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar has stepped down from his position as the president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), paving the way for Tariq Hussain Masoori Bugti to take over. The Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) announced that Brig (r) Khokhar’s resignation clears the path for Tariq Masoori to assume the presidency after securing a vote of confidence from the PHF Congress.

Following Khokhar’s resignation, the Prime Minister, in his capacity as patron-in-chief, nominated Tariq Hussain Masoori Bugti as the new president of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, effective immediately. This nomination was conveyed through a communication from the Prime Minister’s Office vide No. 349/SPM/2024, dated January 30, 2024.

Tariq Masoori had previously been appointed as the full president on December 21, 2023. However, according to the PHF Constitution, official confirmation of his presidency requires a vote of confidence from the members of the PHF Congress. As per the constitution, a special meeting must be convened within the next ten days for this purpose.

It is important to note that under the PHF Constitution, the Prime Minister, acting as the patron, has the authority to appoint the new president once the incumbent resigns. However, the president’s official election is contingent upon approval from the PHF Congress.

Currently, Tariq Masoori awaits confirmation from the PHF Congress to formally assume the presidency. According to the PHF Constitution, the elected secretary, Rana Mujahid, has the responsibility to schedule this special meeting within the stipulated timeframe to finalize Tariq’s presidency.
