Pakistan women’s team football striker Zahmena Malik has made a significant move to Saudi first division club Al Hmmah FC, which competes in the second tier of the Saudi Arabian women’s football hierarchy. The Riyadh-based team is currently vying for promotion to the Saudi Pro League and sits atop their group 1 table in the Saudi first division.
Zahmena, hailing from London but representing Pakistan, has seven international appearances under her belt, with one crucial goal scored during a historic victory against Tajikistan in the Paris Olympic qualifiers. Before joining Al Hmmah FC, the 22-year-old played for London Seaward in the fourth tier of English football. Her early teens saw her honing her skills in the Tottenham Hotspur women’s youth academy before transitioning to college football in England. Her debut for Pakistan came against Comoros, marking Pakistan’s first-ever women’s match against an African nation.

Another key player in the Pakistani women’s squad, captain and defensive midfielder Maria Khan, is plying her trade for Eastern Flames in the Saudi Pro League. Khan has notched up three assists this season, placing her joint second-highest in the league. Together, Malik and Khan have been instrumental in Pakistan’s rise in the FIFA rankings, with the team climbing four places from 161 to 157 after defeating Laos in a penalty shootout last year.
The contributions of these two overseas Pakistani players have significantly bolstered the Pakistan women’s team, both on the field and in their rankings. Their presence in the international football arena underscores the growing strength and potential of women’s football in Pakistan.
