OnePlus Watch 2 Upgrades to Wear OS and Introduces Stainless Steel Design

It’s been three years since the original OnePlus Watch debuted, running on a proprietary operating system. With the unveiling of the OnePlus Watch 2 at MWC, the company has revamped its design approach and introduced significant upgrades.

At the heart of its design is the “Dual Engine Architecture,” integrating two distinct chipsets and operating systems. The Snapdragon W5 chipset powers Wear OS, granting access to a wide range of apps. In contrast, the BES2700 chipset operates on a real-time operating system (RTOS), prioritizing energy efficiency for prolonged battery life.

OnePlus claims the Watch 2 offers up to 100 hours of regular or 48 hours of heavy usage, thanks to its 500 mAh battery. The 7.5W VOOC fast charger can fully recharge in just 60 minutes, with a 10-minute charge providing a day’s power in Smart Mode.

Activating Power Saver Mode extends battery life to 12 days while retaining essential functionalities like sleep tracking, heart rate monitoring, and sports modes.

Crafted from stainless steel, the OnePlus Watch 2 measures 47.0 x 46.6 x 12.1mm, boasting durability and weighing 49g alone or 80g with the fluoro rubber strap and stainless steel buckle.

Protected by 2.5D sapphire glass, the 1.43” AMOLED display offers a resolution of 466 x 466px and brightness up to 1,000 nits in High Brightness Mode. It’s suitable for outdoor use with 5 ATM water resistance and MIL-STD-810H compliance.

Featuring GPS support and other constellations like Beidou and Galileo, the watch includes sensors such as a compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, and light sensor. It also offers sleep tracking with an optical pulse oximeter and various sports modes.

With 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, the OnePlus Watch 2 is priced starting at $300 in the US.
