Rumors indicate that Apple is preparing to launch upgraded versions of both the iPad Pro and iPad Air in the coming weeks, breaking from tradition by introducing two variants of each model.
For the first time, the iPad Air will be available in two sizes, similar to the Pro lineup. It is expected that an 11-inch iPad Air will retain the dimensions of its predecessor, while a new 12.9-inch iPad Air will measure 280.6 x 214.9 x 6 mm.
The dimensions of the upcoming 11-inch iPad Pro are slightly different from its predecessor, measuring 249.7 x 177.5 x 5.1 mm compared to the current model’s 247.6 x 178.5 x 5.9 mm. However, the anticipated 12.9-inch iPad Pro, set for release this year, will have slightly different dimensions compared to the iPad Air of the same screen size. Surprisingly, while the new iPad Pro will be slightly longer and wider, it will be thinner—a departure from the Air’s historical association with slimness.

The projected dimensions of the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro are 281.5 x 215.5 x 5 mm, compared to the current model’s 280.6 x 214.9 x 6.4 mm. This significant reduction in thickness is expected to improve the handling experience of the device. Sources suggest that this reduction can be attributed to the Pro line’s transition to OLED displays, marking a notable shift in the device’s technological architecture.
As the launch of the new iPads approaches, accessory manufacturers are ramping up production of protective cases. While details about the internal hardware remain unclear, it is anticipated that the new iPad Pros will be equipped with the M3 chip. Speculation surrounds whether the Air models will also transition to the M3 chip or opt for the M2. Additionally, there is uncertainty about whether Apple will host a formal event to unveil these new devices or opt for a press release-only launch, as seen in previous product releases.
