Washington Dulles International Airport has introduced a groundbreaking “Enrollment on Departure” option for Global Entry applicants, marking the first of its kind in the United States. Travelers departing from the Washington D.C. area can now undergo their Global Entry interviews at the airport, eliminating the need for scheduling in advance or waiting until they land in an international terminal.
This innovative initiative, announced by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, allows conditionally-approved Global Entry applicants to complete their interviews before boarding their U.S.-bound flights. Marc E. Calixte, the area port director for CBP’s area port of Washington, D.C., expressed enthusiasm, stating that it is excellent news for individuals striving to finalize their membership in this highly regarded trusted traveler program.
The Enrollment on Departure program is situated in the B concourse near gate B41 and operates daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Travelers interested in conducting their interviews at this location must present a travel document (e.g., passport), an international airline ticket, and a physical document confirming residency (e.g., driver’s license, mortgage statement, rental payment statement, or utility bill).
It’s important to note that the Enrollment on Departure office caters exclusively to travelers on international flights.
Global Entry, one of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Trusted Traveler Programs, provides pre-approved travelers with an expedited screening process upon their return to the U.S. from international travel. The application process involves completing a form, paying a $100 non-refundable fee, and scheduling an interview. While interviews can be arranged in advance at a Global Entry Enrollment Center, the newly introduced Enrollment on Departure option provides greater flexibility.
Washington Dulles International Airport also houses an Enrollment on Arrival center in the lower level of the main terminal, offering additional convenience to Global Entry applicants.
