LAHORE – In a setback for inflation-stricken Pakistanis, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a significant increase in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), further burdening the masses already grappling with financial difficulties during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
With the country of over 240 million facing a shortage of natural gas for energy requirements, it has resorted to using LPG as an interim fuel. However, the substantial hike in prices during Ramadan exacerbates the existing challenges.
In a recent announcement, the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has surged by Rs30 per kilogram.

Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Association, criticized the regulatory body’s decision, noting that OGRA has yet to issue an official notification regarding this increase. He attributed the price hikes to the alleged collusion between LPG quota holders and importers.
The official rate of widely used LPG stands at Rs257 per kilogram, but it is being sold at Rs350 per kilogram in Lahore and other major cities. In mountainous regions, the prices soar even higher, reaching up to Rs400 per kilogram.
