IT Ministry Applauds SIFC for FDI Boost

In his first public address, the caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Umar Saif, recently commended the significant role played by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) in bolstering foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan. His remarks came during an interactive session organized by the Pakistan Software Houses Association in Lahore.
Highlighting the pivotal role of SIFC, Minister Saif emphasized its potential as a valuable asset for the incoming elected government in the nation’s developmental endeavors. Collaborative efforts are crucial in building and nurturing a prosperous and growing economy.
Furthermore, Minister Saif shed light on the establishment of the Telecom Tribunal, foreseeing its positive impact on expediting dispute resolution within the telecom industry. This initiative, he noted, would contribute significantly to enhancing efficiency and fostering innovation in the sector.

In line with the government’s strategic vision, Minister Saif outlined initiatives aimed at reducing mobile phone imports by promoting domestic manufacturing of affordable and high-quality devices. By fostering local production, the government aims to create employment opportunities while bolstering the nation’s self-sufficiency in technology.
Moreover, Minister Saif announced plans to conduct standardized quality tests for approximately 75,000 information technology graduates, paving the way for their integration into the workforce through the Industry Placement Program. By bridging academia and industry, ensuring a skilled workforce aligned with the evolving demands of the digital economy.
Anticipating advancements in telecommunications infrastructure, Minister Saif expressed confidence in the imminent launch of 5G services by July-August of the current year. Additionally, plans are underway to offer 300MHz spectrum for auction, further catalyzing the expansion of digital connectivity and innovation.
In a bid to empower freelancers and startups, the government is spearheading a project to establish 10,000 e-Rozgar centers nationwide. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, these centers aim to provide essential support and resources to aspiring entrepreneurs, creating a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem across the country.
Minister Saif’s remarks underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for socio-economic development. Through strategic initiatives and collaborative partnerships, Pakistan is poised to harness the transformative potential of the digital age, driving inclusive growth and prosperity for all.
