Israeli Attack Kills 42 Syrian Soldiers in Most Significant Assault Since October 7th

Israel launched its most significant attack on Syria on October 7th, coinciding with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of plans for a ground offensive in Rafah, southern Gaza.

The airstrike in Syria’s Aleppo province resulted in the deaths of at least 42 Syrian soldiers, with Hezbollah weapons depots reportedly targeted in the area. The strike, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, focused on an area near rocket depots belonging to Hezbollah, claiming the lives of 36 Syrian soldiers and six Hezbollah members.

The targeted region is close to Aleppo’s international airport. Syrian state news agency SANA reported civilian casualties in addition to military personnel. This attack has escalated concerns about Israel’s conflict with Gaza, potentially leading to a broader regional war.
