Islamabad Administration Denies Permission for PTI’s Rally on March 30

Islamabad Administration Denies PTI Permission for Rally Over Alleged Vote Rigging

The Islamabad administration declined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s request to hold a public rally protesting alleged vote rigging in the February 8 general elections, citing security concerns.

This decision was made before the expiration of a two-day deadline set by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the district administration to decide on PTI’s plea to host a public gathering in Islamabad at the end of the month.

PTI, led by incarcerated former Prime Minister Imran Khan, had approached the court, claiming that the capital’s administration had been unresponsive to their request and sought court intervention.

PTI’s regional president, Aamir Masood Mughal, confirmed the development in a statement and announced the party’s intention to appeal to the IHC again. He remarked, “If security cannot be ensured even in the capital, then the government has no right to remain in power.”

PTI alleges that the current government tampered with election results to favor the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Meanwhile, the former ruling party plans to hold a press briefing on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) package and its implications for the public and the economy. This decision was made during a PTI core committee meeting on March 22.

Pakistan, facing financial strain, has a standby $3 billion arrangement with the IMF expiring on April 11. Both parties recently reached a staff-level agreement for the disbursement of the final tranche of $1.1 billion earlier this week.
