Before that, he served in the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 2013 to 2018 as the Provincial Minister for Revenue. He comes from a powerful Pashtun family in Dera Ismail Khan.

Gandapur studied in Dera Ismail Khan and Peshawar. He did his BA (honors) from Gomal University and started his political journey from there. In 2013, he joined PTI and became a member of the Provincial Assembly. Later, he won a seat in the National Assembly from Constituency NA-38 in 2018.
