High-Quality Sharing Made Easy: Set WhatsApp to Send HD Media by Default

In August, WhatsApp introduced a feature allowing users to send higher-quality photos, preserving the image’s full resolution. Initially, users had to manually select the high-resolution option for each image, which was less convenient.

A peek into the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.7.17 revealed a new Media Upload Quality toggle in the Storage and Data menu, enabling users to send all images and videos in HD automatically. When opting for “Standard quality,” media files are compressed for faster delivery at the expense of lower quality. On the other hand, selecting “HD quality” results in larger file sizes, taking up more space and potentially slowing down the sending process.

Despite this automatic HD feature, the toggle in the media sharing screen remains, allowing users to adjust the quality setting for individual files as needed.

A select group of beta testers is testing the feature. Once any issues are resolved, the stable version will be made available. Users can update their app via Google Play to access the latest features.
