In February, Sirajul Haq resigned from his position as JI emir, citing the party’s disappointing performance in the general elections held on February 8. Having led the JI since 2014, Haq acknowledged his resignation was due to the party’s inability to secure a seat in the National Assembly.
Nevertheless, Sirajul Haq’s resignation was unanimously rejected by the party’s Majlis al-Shura.
