Google to Eliminate SEO Spam and AI Clickbait Links for Good

Google Search, long criticized for its abundance of SEO and AI-generated clickbait spam, is finally taking steps to address the issue. Google has announced plans to tackle algorithmically generated spam and implement proactive measures against it.

In a recent blog post, Google outlined changes to its spam policy aimed at combating the infiltration of AI-generated clickbait in search results. Lily Ray, senior director of SEO at Amsive marketing agency, commented, “It sounds like it’s going to be one of the biggest updates in Google’s history. It could change everything.”

These policy changes aim to reduce “low-quality, unoriginal content” on Google search by up to 40%, according to the company’s blog post. Google is focusing on combating what it terms “scaled content abuse,” where malicious actors flood the internet with numerous articles and blog posts designed to exploit search engine algorithms.

Pandu Nayak, Google’s vice president of search, highlighted obituary spam as a prominent example of this abuse. Obituary spam involves scraping and reposting death notices on platforms like YouTube, a practice exacerbated by the widespread use of generative AI. However, Google intends to address this issue with its revised spam policies. If successfully implemented, these changes are expected to strengthen efforts to combat this type of spam in online searches.
