Dubai International Airport (DXB) was thrown into chaos as the torrential rains caused significant operational challenges for its crew. Airport officials advised the public to avoid coming to the airport unless necessary due to ongoing delays and diversions of flights. They encouraged passengers to confirm their flight statuses directly with their airlines.

The authorities are collaborating with emergency response teams and service providers to resume normal operations as swiftly as possible, as flooding disrupted several transport routes for travelers. Stranded passengers at the airport were provided with refreshments and meals amidst the confusion.

Airlines including Emirates, Flydubai, Etihad, and FlyNas faced extensive disruptions, with numerous flights either canceled or postponed. Emirates suspended check-in for flights departing on April 17. The adverse weather conditions are expected to persist.

The Met Office described the recent downpours as a remarkable climatic event for the UAE. These rains, driven by a low-pressure system, began affecting the UAE on Monday and continued with two subsequent waves of unstable weather through Tuesday.

This significant weather event not only stands out historically but is also set to boost the UAE’s annual rainfall totals and enhance its groundwater reserves, crucial for the arid region.
