Babar reached this milestone during his innings of 37 runs against New Zealand on Sunday, surpassing Aaron Finch’s record of 2,236 runs. Finch, the former Australian captain, had set this mark over 76 innings.
In the third T20I, after New Zealand chose to field first, Babar and Saifuddin Ayub opened strongly, combining for a 55-run partnership. Saifuddin contributed a brisk 32 from 22 balls, while Babar, before being dismissed by New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell, scored 37 from 29 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and a six.
