Babar Azam Poised to Reclaim Pakistan Captaincy

Exciting developments suggest that Pakistani cricket sensation Babar Azam is poised to reclaim the captaincy of the national team. Sources indicate that Mohsin Naqvi, the newly appointed Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), will entrust Babar Azam with the captain’s responsibilities once again.

Mohsin Naqvi, who previously served as the caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, assumed the role of PCB Chairman uncontested, marking the beginning of his three-year tenure. His appointment signals potential changes in Pakistan cricket’s administration.

The election transpired at the National Cricket Academy, with Mohsin Naqvi becoming the 37th PCB Chairman. Meanwhile, Babar Azam had relinquished the captaincy across all formats following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup, where they finished fifth and missed out on the semi-finals.

Subsequently, Shaheen Afridi and Shan Masood were appointed as captains for T20Is and Tests, respectively. However, both faced challenges during their debut series. The recent 4-1 defeat in the T20I series against New Zealand and the preceding 3-0 Test series loss to Australia highlighted the team’s struggles under their leadership.
