Arrest Made in Lahore: Fake NAB Chairman Arrested

LAHORE – Authorities in the Punjab capital city of Lahore have arrested an individual for impersonating the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The suspect, along with his brother, was apprehended by the intelligence wing of NAB Lahore following a complaint lodged against them.

According to a spokesperson from the anti-graft watchdog, the suspects allegedly engaged in blackmailing citizens to extort money by falsely presenting themselves as senior NAB officers.

The suspects have been handed over to the Chung police station for further legal proceedings.

Currently, Lt Gen (retired) Nazir Ahmed serves as the NAB Chairman, having assumed the position in March 2023 after the resignation of Aftab Sultan. His appointment is for a three-year term.

Nazir Ahmed Butt previously served as the 30th president of the National Defence University from April 2016 to December 2016. He also held positions as Pakistan’s military attaché in the US and military secretary to the prime minister of Pakistan.

A recipient of the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, he was commissioned in the 40 Frontier Force Regiment of the Pakistan Army in 1983. He is a graduate of the Command and Staff College and the National Defence University, Pakistan.
