‘Threatening Letters’ Received by Supreme Court and LHC Judges

Following the incident where Islamabad High Court judges were sent letters containing Anthrax, Supreme Court and Lahore High Court (LHC) judges also found themselves the recipients of threatening letters from unidentified sources.

DIG Operations Shehzad Bukhari informed the press that threatening letters had been sent to four Supreme Court judges.

Adding to the concern, the LHC’s Registrar’s Office verified that three of its judges — Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan, and Justice Alia Neelum — had received similar letters, prompting an immediate response from counter-terrorism officials who enhanced security measures at the court.

A forensic team was dispatched to examine suspicious letters aimed at eight Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges, including Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, believed to be contaminated with anthrax and accompanied by threats. The investigation has extended to reviewing CCTV footage surrounding the high court premises.

This alarming sequence of events started on Tuesday when Islamabad High Court judges were sent a letter containing anthrax powder.

This series of threats comes in the wake of a suo motu action by the Supreme Court, which established a seven-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa to delve into allegations made by six IHC judges concerning interference from spy agencies in judicial processes.
