New Zealand Names Michael Bracewell as Captain for Upcoming T20 Series Against Pakistan

New Zealand Cricket has unveiled its team for the forthcoming T20 series against Pakistan, introducing Michael Bracewell as the captain for the very first time. The series, which consists of five matches, sees the absence of several key players due to their participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Bracewell, 33, steps into the role of captain after not being part of the international circuit last year, sidelined by various injuries. His leadership marks a new chapter for the team, especially in a critical series ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled from June 1 to June 29.

The team for this series includes a mix of experienced players and new faces. Among the squad are two debutants, Tim Robinson and Will O’Rourke, who will don the Black Caps jersey in the T20I format for the first time.

The series is set to commence on April 18, with New Zealand playing three matches in Rawalpindi and two in Lahore. This tour is seen as crucial preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

The absence of New Zealand’s top-tier players is notable. Stars such as Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitch Santner, and Kane Williamson are all committed to the IPL during this period. Additionally, Tim Southee has been given a break from selection, allowing him some rest after a dense schedule across different formats.

The selected squad, which embarks for Pakistan on April 12, aims to showcase its prowess and depth. The first face-off against the Pakistani team is eagerly awaited on April 18 in Rawalpindi.

Here’s a look at the New Zealand squad gearing up for the Pakistan series: Michael Bracewell (Captain), Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Jacob Duffy, Dean Foxcroft, Ben Lister, Cole McConchie, Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, Will O’Rourke, Tim Robinson, Ben Sears, Tim Seifert, and Ish Sodhi. This lineup represents a blend of experience and fresh talent, setting the stage for an intriguing T20 series.
