Ramadan ration bags looted in Lahore’s Chuhng area; FIR filed

Intended to provide aid during the holy month, a relief effort in Lahore turned chaotic as people desperately grabbed for ration bags.

The incident occurred in Chuhng when a truck carrying essentials for the Punjab government’s Ramadan Nigehban Relief Package arrived. The program, led by CM Maryam Nawaz, aimed to distribute over 6.5 million packages directly to deserving families. Each contained vital items like flour, rice, sugar, and cooking oil.

Disturbing footage shows people struggling to secure ration bags, leading to a stampede as a large crowd, impacted by inflation, rushed the truck. Authorities filed a case against unidentified individuals based on a complaint by Patwari Asghar. Charges include theft and obstructing government initiatives.

This incident tragically echoes a similar event last year in Karachi. A stampede at a Ramadan food distribution center resulted in the deaths of eleven, mostly women and children, as crowds panicked while waiting for supplies.
