Pakistan Railways Raises Ticket Prices Following Fuel Price Surge

Pakistan Railways has opted to transfer the impact of the fuel price hike onto passengers, implementing a two percent increase in fares for both passenger and freight trains.

As per the notification issued by the Railways, the fare adjustment will be effective from February 17th, encompassing all classes of passenger and freight trains.

In recent developments, the interim government of Punjab sanctioned fare hikes for the Orange Line train and Multan metro bus. The fare for the Orange Line Metro Train project has been augmented by five rupees, mirroring a similar increase for the Multan metro bus fare.

Furthermore, a five-rupee elevation in feeder bus fares was greenlit by the interim government. These fare adjustments correspond to the recent surge in fuel prices.

It is noteworthy that the federal interim government, in line with the recommendation of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), has raised the price of petrol by Rs. 2.73 per liter for the forthcoming fortnight.

According to the finance ministry’s notification, the cost of petrol has escalated by Rs. 2.73 per liter, while High-Speed Diesel has seen an increase of Rs. 8.37 per liter.
