Overview of the New Toyota Land Cruiser

The much-anticipated 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser brings several noteworthy changes compared to its predecessor. In contrast to the previous generation’s naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 engine, reports suggest the latest model incorporates a hybrid-assisted and turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. This new powerplant delivers 326 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque, surpassing the old V8’s 381 hp and 543 Nm.

With dimensions measuring 193.7 inches in length and a 112.2-inch wheelbase, the new Land Cruiser boasts dimensions of 84.2 inches in width (including mirrors) and 73.2 inches in height.

In terms of fuel efficiency, Toyota estimates a significant improvement, with the latest Land Cruiser achieving a combined fuel economy of 27 miles per gallon, compared to the old model’s combined rating of just 14 mpg.

Regarding off-road capabilities, the SUV is equipped with features to enhance performance in rugged environments. It utilizes the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform and features an eight-speed automatic gearbox paired with a full-time four-wheel-drive system and a two-speed transfer case. Additional off-road enhancements include an automatic limited-slip center differential, a locking rear differential, low-speed crawl control for off-road journeys, and Downhill Assist Control for descending steep grades. The Multi-Terrain Select system allows drivers to adjust drivetrain settings for various conditions like mud, rocks, and sand. Higher trim levels feature a Multi-Terrain Monitor providing images in front, beneath, and along the sides of the vehicle.

The interior of the new Land Cruiser offers multiple comforts, even in the base 1958 trim, with features such as heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen, and a six-speaker stereo. All Land Cruisers come equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite, including a pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and road sign recognition.

While Toyota has not disclosed complete pricing details, the company indicated during the debut in August that the starting price is expected to fall within the mid-$50,000 range.
