Pakistan Official Response to Statements by US, UK, and EU Regarding General Elections

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has issued an official statement in response to the statements made by the United States (US), the United Kingdom (UK), and the European Union (EU) regarding the general elections held on February 8, 2024.

In the statement, the MoFA expressed surprise at the negative tone of some of these statements, highlighting that they fail to recognize the complexity of the electoral process and the enthusiastic participation of millions of Pakistani voters.

The MoFA emphasized that Pakistan conducted the elections peacefully and effectively despite facing significant security threats, primarily from foreign-sponsored terrorism. It clarified that while there were mobile service suspensions for security reasons, there was no nationwide internet shutdown as claimed in some statements.

Pakistan views the elections as a step towards building a stable and democratic society, independent of external commentary. The country reiterated its commitment to democratic values and peaceful power transitions, driven by the aspirations of its people and the vision of its founding fathers.
