Minister Urges $5 Billion Export Strategy for Islamabad

Caretaker Federal Minister for Interior, Gohar Ejaz, has requested the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to devise a plan aimed at boosting exports from Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) to $5 billion. During a meeting with the President of ICCI and the accompanying delegation at the Interior Ministry on Tuesday, the challenges faced by the business community were discussed.

The minister disclosed that a comprehensive plan has been formulated, dividing the country into 39 sectors to achieve the ambitious export target of $100 billion. Emphasizing the significance of Islamabad, the minister urged the ICCI to submit a plan by Friday outlining strategies to attain the $5 billion export goal. He highlighted the ICT’s potential for exports, citing its advantageous location, favorable weather, and educated population.

Pointing out specific opportunities in information technology, gems, and flowers, the minister urged the business community to actively contribute to the country’s development. He stressed the pivotal role of the business community in overcoming economic challenges through increased exports.

Furthermore, the minister called upon the business community in Islamabad to fulfill their corporate social responsibilities and actively participate in citizen welfare initiatives. He emphasized that chambers should not only focus on boosting exports but also work diligently towards social development.
